As we age, our mouths change. Our smile may change as our teeth shift or darken. Our bite may change as we lose teeth due to disease (such as periodontal disease or caries), a traumatic accident, or even wear from nighttime grinding. Loss of teeth may affect a person's overall health by decreasing our ability to enjoy certain foods or diminished self-esteem by feeling conscious when we smile. A beautiful smile makes you look healthier and younger, no matter your age.

What is Prosthodontics?
Prosthodontics is the dental specialty responsible for the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of patients with complex clinical conditions using biocompatible substitutes, including implants, to replace missing or deficient teeth and/or craniofacial tissues.

What is a Prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a specialist in dentistry who has received three additional years of intensive postgraduate training in reconstructive and prosthetic dentistry. In general, prosthodontists deal with teeth and tissues that are deteriorating or missing, either due to oral disease, trauma or congenital/hereditary conditions. Prosthodontists are trained to accomplish the more complex treatments needed by those experiencing more severe problems that can occur due to medical problems, severe wear, long term neglect, improper treatment and aging. They are also trained to provide treatment for implants and TMJ disorders that are not typically taught in dental school. In addition, they receive advanced training in aesthetics and porcelain restorations. As a prosthodontist, our goal is to restore function, comfort and aesthetics for our patients.

The American College of Prosthodontists is the official sponsoring organization for the specialty of prosthodontics. A recent survey of members of the ACP found that “A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE” was ranked by more than 50% of respondents as the greatest benefit a prosthodontist could offer their patients. Patients are referred to or seek treatment by prosthodontists because their treatment needs require the advanced training and skill of a specialist.
